Safend Expands Endpoint Information Leakage Prevention Features
Safend Protector 3.2 to Offer File Type Control, Media & Content Monitoring, and Tracking of Offline File Transfers
May 15, 2007 - Safend, an international leader in the development of endpoint information security solutions, has announced the latest enhancements to their award-winning product, Safend Protector. Safend Protector 3.2 adds file type control, CD/DVD media authorization, and offline USB usage tracking to the product’s Information Leakage Prevention (ILP) security features.
Safend Protector analyses content to determine file types -- word
processing documents, spreadsheets, images, etc.— and allows
administrators to control the transfer of forbidden file formats to
or from managed endpoints. The recognition and control of files
types helps enterprises prevent accidental or malicious file
transfers. Administrators can set policies to reduce the risk of
malware invasion via external devices while restricting introduction
of non-work related content.
An add-on Interface to Content Inspection feature, developed through
a partnership with Websense, takes file type control a step further,
examining files that are downloaded from an endpoint to an external
storage device. If sensitive data is detected, the user is
notified that this file should not be downloaded and a trace log is
created for the administrator that details the potential data
breach.
While earlier the Safend Protector platform secured enterprise
endpoints from data loss and malware invasion through physical and
wireless ports, Safend Protector 3.2 expands this protection to
provide CD/DVD media white list capabilities. Instead of simply
turning CD/DVD drives on or off, this feature identifies the data on
each medium and approves removable media based on digital
signatures. Approved media is accessible in read-only mode so as to
remain unchanged following authorization. An employee may
access a CD/DVD for installing an operating system, for example, but
might not be allowed to download image files.
Safend Protector 3.2 can also detect the offline usage of removable
USB storage devices, tracking file transfers to and from encrypted
devices on non-corporate computers. If an employee downloads a
file onto a USB device and plugs that device into a home PC to copy
the file, the transfer is recorded. The next time the USB device is
plugged into the office desktop, a log is generated reporting the
file transfer. Additional features include Policy Distribution
Server, external database support, and support for Windows Vista.
“Protecting information from unauthorized access, loss and theft is
an ongoing priority for our customers and partners, especially as
channels for accessing data continue to evolve,” said Gil Sever, Safend’s CEO.
“By offering enhanced solutions for endpoint information leakage
prevention, we provide our customers with robust data security
without compromising the flexibility they need to remain productive,
whether staff are inside the office or working remotely,” said Chris
Joscelyne, of Australian Projects Pty Limited, master distributor
for Australia and New Zealand.
