Safend and Websense Deliver Enhanced Endpoint Information Leak Prevention
Joint software prevents information leaks through external storage devices
May 15, 2007 - Safend, an international provider
of information leakage prevention (ILP) solutions for enterprise
endpoints, has announced the availability of an integration between
the new Safend Protector 3.2 and Websense Content Protection Suite
v5.1 that protects organizations from information leaks through
endpoint devices. This combined solution, now available as an add-on
feature of Safend Protector 3.2, provides the industry's leading,
content-aware network and endpoint ILP solution.
The pervasiveness of portable storage and media devices, as well as
the transfer of sensitive information to those devices is a growing
concern for organizations. The lack of control and visibility
into the data being transferred to the devices can result in serious
compromises of security and data breaches if not properly addressed.
In the February 2007 Gartner report “Market Overview: Portable
Storage Device Control Products, Worldwide, 2006,” Gartner analysts
Ruggero Contu and Jay Heiser write, “Organizations that allow
employees or outsiders to access large amounts of regulated or
sensitive information need to explicitly assess the risks associated
with the leakage of data through the Internet and portable storage
devices.”
To meet this burgeoning need, in the newest version of Safend
Protector 3.2, Safend offers an interface to the Websense Content
Protection Suite, which locates, classifies, identifies and protects
sensitive information such as intellectual property and consumer
data at rest or in motion on the network. Based on
patent-pending Digital Membrane™ technology, the Safend solution
monitors real-time traffic at endpoints, and applies customized,
highly-granular security policies over all physical, wireless and
removable storage interfaces as well as portable media players and
U3 drives. Used together, these products allow administrators to
inspect file transfers for sensitive or classified content, notify
users of security breaches, and log online and offline security
incidents.
“Websense Content Protection Suite adds a key component to our
solution – identifying the content or data that is being downloaded
to removable devices,” said Geoff Roberts, the implementation
partner of Australian Projects, and Safend’s technical specialist
for Australia and New Zealand. “Combining these technologies
provides our customers with a unique solution that solves an
important key security problem by monitoring files and their content
as they are transferred throughout the network.”
“This release and partnership builds on the previous technology
partnership between Safend and PortAuthority Technologies prior to
its acquisition by Websense in January of 2007” said Devin Redmond,
director of the security products group at Websense. “Safend
provides valuable protection at the endpoint and as our first
endpoint integration partner, we believe this joint solution will
help our common customers protect their endpoints from information
leaks.”
